What are Tech Packs and Why You Should use Them for Your Brand

What is a tech pack

A tech pack is essentially a blue print to making your garment correctly and accurately.
This should include all technical elements to making your garment and most clothing manufacturers
will require a tech pack in order to offer you a quotation.

A good tech pack should include:

A CAD design – A front and back mock up of your garment.

Reference images for construction details – Details such as toggles, bartacks, pleats, drawstrings and binding should
be referenced with reference images to support these.

Branding – Your art work such as prints and embroidery with the dimensions included.

Trims – This should include neck labels, hang tags, hem tags etc with art work and dimensions.

Color Variations – If making multiple colors, you should have this referenced with pantone or swatch colors.

BOM (bill of materials) – A list of fabrics and trims being used for your product.

Graded Size Spec – A graded size chart to display the measurements for your garment.

Should I get a tech pack?

A tech pack is a very important part of the process and is one that should not be skipped.
Some of the reasons behind this are;

All the product information is in one place – Discussing all aspects of your garment can be long winded and often
scattered over many emails and messages. This will make sure both you and the factory are on the same page when it comes
to the final details and that no information is missed.

Quality Control Checking – After sampling or a bulk order, quality control checking is much easier when you have a tech pack.
You can check garment sizing, logo sizes and trim details easily by cross referencing to the tech pack.

Retrieving Quotes – Many factories require a tech pack in order to offer you a quotation.
This means they can quote more accurately and removes a lot of guess work.

Where can I get a tech pack made?

You can attempt to make a tech pack yourself but we would recommend working with designer with experience in the garment industry.
Making one yourself without prior experience can lead to mistakes or missing information in your tech pack.
You can find designers on internet searches, through recommendations, social media platforms or freelancer platforms.
